More of my art. Encaustic is bee's wax that has oil based pigments added. It is heated and applied to the surface of panel.

White Winter

Today was the first day we have been able to complete our usual distance of 8 kilometers on the trail. The conditions were less than perfect. The trail has not been groomed and had drifting snow in spots.

Today is perfect winter day. Bright blue sky and crisp air. Here is a pic I took this morning.

Blackie & The Rodeo Kings

Went to a great show last night at the Grand Theatre in Kingston. Blackie & The Rodeo Kings were laid back with a kitchen party for their first set. After break, they were rocking! Here is a video of "water or gasoline" from another performance.

Snowy day today!
What was predicted as 1 to 3cm has turned into over 10cm so far. But I'm already thinking of summer. I booked a cottage in Cape Breton and I'm already excited about going. Here are a few pics of our last trip there in 2012.

Another cold day!. Had a few errands to run and then settled in to do some computer fixes.
The night is cold and clear again. I would love to see some aurora. I have been looking every night this winter. The best nights as per predictions have been overcast here.
I don't have much experience with photos at night. but would love to capture some of the beautiful night sky.

My village

I am happy to be back online after a few days outage due to hardware.

Here is an etching by my partner David Smith. It captures a glimpse of our village, Harrowsmith Ontario. Dave produces limited edition prints. Note that his etchings are done in the traditional way on copper plates.

We've been having trouble with our internet since getting back from Ottawa yesterday. Feels like we are back in the middle ages. Hoping it stays connected long enough to post...
Got home to lots of snow yesterday. It's still coming down today.

Mon pays c'est l'hiver!

Here are two photos taken on the trail two years apart. Jan 2012, we had freezing rain that coated all the trees, Jan 2014 a similar storm occurred a few weeks ago and the ice has stayed since. Foggy day Jan 14, 2014.
Not much colour on these overcast days.

I have been painting most of my life. I've been working in mixed media, adding things to the canvas and paint such as fibres. Moving in this direction has led to experimenting with encaustics paints because of the texture that can be produced. Here is one of my works completed in 2012. It is titled "Naked".

Today we finally got back in the trail for a hike. We didn't go as far as usual due to the icy conditions. Even with our cleats on, it was slow going.

The lake was shimmery.

Here is one of the few paintings I managed to do while my studio was in chaos in 2013.
It was on display at the Grace Centre in Sydenham last October.
I participated in a juried group show with two other local artists, David Gilmore and Teresa Mrozicka.

The painting is called "MoodMusic".

Here is one of my painting currently being displayed at The Piggery Gallery in Newburg, Ontario. It was completed in 2012. Acrylic on canvas 20"x20" in size.

It is titled Whrilwind.

Today was the first day that has been warm enough to go for a hike on the trail. We tried a different leg that went past farmers' fields. Only had a few snowmobiles pass us.

Today was the studio move. We got a bit of a late start but the movers were great.
