Hello Sunshine

Just got back from a trip to Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Here is a inspiring field of Sun Flowers taken in the Margaree Valley. I will post more photos once I've had a chance to sort them all. I would love to still be there....

Railroad crossing

We had to drive around this one as there was no train coming. Rail work was being done up the line.

Garden produce

I'm starting to get a few veggies from the garden. And did a little pickling. Here are garlic scapes. This is my first attempt at this recipe. We'll see if it's worth it in 6 weeks.

Summer Photo

I haven't posted in a while. This time of year is busy with garden planting and short trips to visit friends and family. Here is a piece of my artwork that started as a photo and then has changed some.

Turtle Thruway

We were not alone on the trail this morning.  At least ten snapping turtles were out laying eggs. Hope a few survive the foxes and hatch in the fall.

The underbrush in the woods is peeking through. Here is one of the first trilliums at Gould Lake Conservation Area near Sydenham, Ontario this week.

On the Cataraqui Trail

Nice day on the trail near Sydenham today. A few critters are starting to show their faces after a long winter.

Blue Sky

Hoping to see more days like this! Not a cloud in the sky!
Stone barn foundation crumbling. Photo taken just off the trail in Sydenham, Ontario

Garden sprouting

Still a cold day but there are signs of better days to come. The garlic I planted last fall is sprouting. Hope springs anew!

Sunday 20 April 2014

ribbon

I love reflections. Especially on water. Here is a pic from March 2012 along the trail near Harrowsmith, Ontario.

Water Softened

The run-off continues. Spring weather is unpredictable. Here is a photo of water falling over rocks. Love the red dogwood!
How's the melting in your area?

Lonely Canoe

Another day closer to spring. Yesterday, the snow was melting and becoming icy. The lake was still ice covered. But the breakup should be any day now with the rain that is falling.

Pretty in Pink

Snow still hanging on.
Here is an aged gate. Used to be red but sun has bleached it pink.

Gardening Thoughts

I went to see and hear Ed Lawrence CBC Radio gardening expert speak in Verona, Ontario today. Time well spent on a dreary day. Made me think of spring flowers coming soon. I hope!

Thursday 3 April 2014

the big melt begins

Finally seeing some good weather. The snow is beginning to melt.

Wednesday 2 April 2014

april day, EH!

Though the temperature is slowly rising and there are some signs of spring, it is hard to be optimistic. It is April after all.
There is someone who still appreciates a good run in the snow.

winter in 2000

Here is a photo taken in March 2000 with my Olympus -35SP.
This was our cottage in Quebec at lake Cabaret (Cameron).

Something from the past

Today we saw some signs of spring. +4celsius and sunny.
Of course, tomorrows forecast is for another dump of snow.
I'm posting today a painting I did a long time ago. Thinking of flowers and sunny days to come.

Saturday 15 March 2014

Sometimes it's good to go back through the photos taken last year to look for gems. These were taken at Gould Lake last October. Great day for a fall hike.

They All Fall Down

I had this video shared to me on Facebook. So I looked up the photographer, Mark Mesenko.
Beautiful Work! Want to have his backyard!
Here is also a link to his website:

Please check it out.

Hope he doesn't mind me resharing the video here.

Encaustic works

Finished a couple of small encaustic paintings today. Here are the photos. I'll have to try and take better ones later. The surface is so silky and lustrous that it is hard to get a good focus. They are untitled at this time.

Signs of Spring? NOT

February thaw is upon us. Mother Nature toying with us.
We had rain and now have a lake in our yard. When it freezes, we'll be skating!

Monday 17 February 2014

Foxy

Looking for signs of spring but not finding much. Here is a photo taken two years ago in February near Yarker, Ontario. A lot less snow on the ground that year.

Sunday 9 February 2014

Winter Project

As winter is dragging on, I decided to tackle my indoor project of fixing the guest room.
Peeling wallpaper is a thankless job!.
I may have to rethink wall coverings.

Etching

Another of Dave's etchings. This one fits the season. It's called "Above Snow Lake".

The photo doesn't do it justice.

Rock On!

I took a few photos of rock cuts yesterday. Dave commented that they looked like abstract art. Here is a sampler of photos of rocks. What do you think?

Sunday 2 February 2014

ground hog day

Harrowsmith Harry did not see his shadow today. But it's unlikely he made it out of his hole due to the two feet of ice and snow on the ground. Spring is on the way!!

Memories of Giverny

Monet's gardens in Giverny, France were a wonderful experience. A contemplative time after trying to fit all the sights of Paris into a once in a life time visit in September 2013. Here are a few views that inspire me as they inspired Monet.

More of my art. Encaustic is bee's wax that has oil based pigments added. It is heated and applied to the surface of panel.
